Baptism 03:38
I stood in front of the crowd, in my boxers and a burial shroud And I was asked to plead a case for my people, for my race So I danced in place and my baptism was rad I stood in front of the crowd, in just a yarmulke with my tongue out And I was asked how I could divide between the good rules and the ones I let slide So I danced far and wide and my baptism was rad The music would not let me stop but my skin soaked up every drop The rain ran red like the sea, as I parted a new part of me And I kept going back again and again I stood under the lights with a twisted up candle and a box of spice And I was asked to choose a new name, but ‘I wrestle with me’ felt lame So I danced ’til the angels came and my baptism was rad I stood under the lights in a fresh coat of darkness where 3 stars shone bright And I was asked if my faith was half-baked and I said, "So is Matzah but it still fills my plate" So I danced right up to the gate and my baptism was rad The music would not let me stop but my skin soaked up every drop The rain ran red like the sea, as I parted a new part of me And I kept going back again and again I stood right next to the judge tied up with a tallis, collapsed on a rug And I was asked if I’d die to defend my torah, my people, my friends So I danced to the bitter end and my baptism was rad I stood right next to the judge, my back a doorpost, my heart, mezuzah And I was thanked for playing along, he kissed me, dismissed me, declared himself wrong So I danced like a leper, shook like salt and pepper, rose as dough, floated as a zephyr Rained down red and my baptism was rad Rained down again and again and my baptism was rad
